This plot shows the number of deaths per year in Portugal since 1960 per 1000 inhabitants.
The average annual death rate for the period 1960-202 is indicated, with the bars being colored according to the deviation from this average value.
For the years 2020 and 2021 the deaths related to covid-19 are marked in orange. According to the Sico-EVM and the DGS reports in 2020 there were 123767 deaths, 6906 of which due to covid-19, and in 2021 there were 125197 deaths, 12049 of which due to covid-19.
The records from 1960 to 2008 where obtained in the Pordata website; the records since 2009 from the https://evm.min-saude.pt/ website; and the covid-19 related deaths are from the DGS reports whose data is available in a github repository.
